On Christmas Day, a 16-year-old son protested that he only received a fishing rod for Christmas while his friends “received cars and trucks.” A fight ensued between the the boy and his father, and in the end the father was shot in the face by a younger son who was trying to stop the fight.

The incident took place in Bayview, Texas.

According to Action 4 News, once the 16-year-old became aggravated over receiving the fishing rod, the father retrieved a baseball bat and struck the boy in the back of the head. Another son–who is 14 years of age–grabbed a shotgun to intervene. As he did this, the father retrieved a BB gun.

Sheriff Omar Lucio says the 14-year-old then shot the father “in the eye with the shotgun.”

The father was hospitalized and is expected to face charges. The teen who shot him was initially charged as well.
