NUEVO LAREDO, Tamaulipas — More than nine thousand kilos of marijuana belonging to Northeastern Cartel (Cartel Del Noreste) were seized by Mexican soldiers in this border city when the driver of a tractor-trailer tried to move over an international bridge into Laredo, Texas.

The drug bundles were inside the trailer and no apparent effort was made to conceal them, Tamaulipas law enforcement sources revealed to Breitbart Texas. Authorities found 420 bundles of different sizes. The trailer was registered to a company called Resendiz S.A. de C.V.

Mexican soldiers carrying out operations at the international bridge ordered the driver to stop the vehicle for a search. When the soldiers opened the trailer, they were surprised when they found the various drug bundles in plain sight. Authorities noticed that some of the marijuana bundles displayed various markings including the letters “K,” “F,” “J,” and a checkmark. Authorities believe that the marks could be codes for the individuals in the U.S. that would receive some of the bundles.

The drugs belong to the Cartel Del Noreste (CDN), a faction once part of Los Zetas that is fighting their former allies over control of drug smuggling territory in northern Mexico.

The drugs, driver, and the truck were turned over to federal and state authorities for further investigation and for prosecution.

The CDN controls Nuevo Laredo and the surrounding regions. In recent months, the criminal organization took some heavy blows from the Mexican Navy and the Army. This year, Mexican authorities made significant drug and weapon seizures from the CDN, Breitbart Texas reported.

Editor’s Note: Breitbart Texas traveled to the Mexican States of Tamaulipas, Coahuila, and Nuevo León to recruit citizen journalists willing to risk their lives and expose the cartels silencing their communities.  The writers would face certain death at the hands of the various cartels that operate in those areas including the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas if a pseudonym were not used. Breitbart Texas’ Cartel Chronicles are published in both English and in their original Spanish.
