MN Gov on Police Shooting: ‘This Kind Of Racism Exists’

Mn Gov

Thursday at a press conference, Gov. Mark Dayton (D-MN) said that he did not believe Philando Castile would have been killed by police Wednesday night in Falcon Heights, MN, during a traffic stop if he had been white.

Dayton said, “I’ve heard in the last few hours from very distinguished African American men and women who recounted to me how they’ve been pulled over, singled out and treated very differently because of their race from how white Minnesotans expect to be covered. Would this have happened if they would have been white? I don’t think it would have.  So I’m forced to confront and I think all of us in Minnesota are forced to confront, this kind of racism exists. And it is incumbent upon all of us to vow to do whatever we can to see it doesn’t continue to happen.”
