CNN’s Berman to Blumenthal: Since You Oppose Kavanaugh, ‘Aren’t You Prejudging This Hearing Already?’

Thursday, CNN “New Day” co-host John Berman pressed Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) over all 10 of the Democrats in the Senate Judiciary Committee opposing Supreme Court associate justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court before his hearing with his sexual assault accuser Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.

Berman suggested the Democrats opposing Kavanaugh before hearing the facts was “prejudging” the hearing.

“Chairman Grassley says that vote was scheduled merely because he needed to be in regular order. And if they were going to have the possibility of all voting on it, they needed to schedule it three days before. He could delay it after tomorrow. I do want to focus on one thing you said, you said you were focused on the facts and the evidence from today’s hearing. However, all 10 of the Democrats on the Judiciary Committee signed a letter asking the president, asking for the withdrawal of the nomination. So to that extent, haven’t — aren’t you prejudging this hearing already?” Berman asked.

“We are not the judges,” Blumenthal responded.” We are the inquirers who are eliciting and uncovering those facts and evidence for the American people. Ultimately, the jury here is the American people and our colleagues who may not have decided.”
