The UK Independence Party (UKIP) was awarded zero seats in the House of Lords despite being the third largest political party in the country, as well as having a Member of Parliament, and winning the European Elections last year.
During the last government, Prime Minister David Cameron promised to base the next round of peerages on vote share, rather than the number of MPs in the Commons. Despite this, he has awarded UKIP no peers, and Twitter seems to have a problem with it:
If we’re going to persist with this House of Lords model then UKIP should clearly have received some peerages.

So no one votes for the lib dems but their cronies are now lords. Where are the UKIP SNP and greens. The lords do not represent the British

Whatever your political views on the House of Lords, UKIP should have received some Peerages in today’s List.
— Lord Ashcroft (@LordAshcroft) August 27, 2015
No @UKIP peers appointed to House of Lords as Tories continue to ignore the millions who voted UKIP. Cronyism alive and well in Westminster

How great of the govt to appoint all those new House of Lords members to represent the 5.5m people who voted #Greens & #UKIP. Oh wait…
— Sam Morris (@SamJosephMorris) August 27, 2015
UKIP deserves to have the % number of new Lords to their popular vote.

The SNP don’t want any Lords. UKIP’s exclusion is hard to justify. #wato

45 new lords and net migration at 330,000 this government is a waste of time, money and effort. @UKIP
— Alex Hindley (@AlexHindley3) August 27, 2015
UKIP get four million votes and no peer. LibDems get 2.5 million votes and 11 peers. I thought they believed in proportional representation?
— Tim Montgomerie ن (@montie) August 27, 2015
No UKIP peers as usual. Guess they wouldn’t want the upper chamber shaken up with common sense
— Andy Monk (@andymonk2015) August 27, 2015
I hold no candle for @Ukip (I might hold a sparkler), but the fact that they got zero peers while LibDems got 11 is a disgrace to democracy.
— Adrian Hilton (@Adrian_Hilton) August 27, 2015
So, 45 new peers announced. LibDems got 2.4m votes at election and get 11 peers. UKIP get 3.8ml votes and get 0. Greens also get 0. Fair?
