Gina Miller Plans Anti-Brexit Election Tour

Gina Miller, the businesswoman who defeated the government in the courts over the triggering of Article 50, plans to tour marginal constituencies in an effort to keep out pro-Brexit MPs.

The millionaire former model set up a crowdfunding page that raised £160,000 in one day, aiming to “build the biggest tactical voting effort in UK history” in the general election.

More than 5,000 people donated to the cause, urging voters to “Do what’s best for Britain!”

Part of that campaign is set to include a tour of the nation, The Times reports, where Ms. Miller will agitate against Brexit supporting MPs and attempt to exclude them from Parliament.

“Theresa May has said she called this general election to ensure there is unity in Westminster and no turning back on Brexit,” she said.

“But as my court victory showed, the referendum didn’t hand the Prime Minister a blank cheque, and nor should this election – especially as we don’t know the terms of the deal we’ll get.”

She added: “The Government must not be allowed to succeed in killing off all opposition to Brexit. In an ideal world, we will have time to put together a progressive alliance – but there simply isn’t the time.

“That’s why I’m part of a crowdfunded tactical voting campaign hoping to endorse those who are opposed to a ‘hard’ Brexit.”

Former Sunday Times editor and veteran BBC presenter Andrew Neil was unconvinced, accusing her of being disingenuous and trying to stop Brexit.

“You talk about voting for people who want to do the best for Britain, but that is just code for wanting to vote for people who want to stop Brexit, isn’t it?” he said.

“Everything you do is calculated to thwart Brexit, that’s what you’re about! There’s nothing wrong with that, it’s a democracy.

“You can thwart whatever you want but why not just admit it, instead of having this kind of canopies of other motives.”

Ms. Miller has repeatedly insisted she has “never opposed Brexit” and is only interested in Parliamentary sovereignty, despite never campaigning on the issue before.

After her court victory, she said she would continue her fight because, “I can’t think of anything better to do with the success I have.”
