California Assemblywoman Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) is facing a piranha-like feeding frenzy of criticism over comments she made at a pro-life banquet relating to drought and abortion policy, which were picked up by pro-abortion website RH Reality Check.

Grove, speaking at the California ProLife Council banquet in Sacramento, apparently said that Texas’s drought was broken after the state passed HB 2, which included a 20-week abortion ban. She then said, “It rained that night. Now God has His hold on California,” according to RH.

In response to critics, Grove stated, “God’s hand is in the affairs of man.” According to the Sacramento Bee, she further clarified: “Is this drought caused by God? Nobody knows. But biblical history shows a consequence to man’s actions; we do know for sure that California’s water shortage crisis has been compounded by liberal politicians’ poor decisions…”.

RH honed in on legislation that Grove has supported in the past, including a 2014 bill aimed at banning sex-selective abortion, which the Democrat-dominated legislature saw killed in committee.

Recently, Grove has spoken out against AB 775. Passed through the Assembly and currently in the State Senate, the bill would effectively suppress the operation of nonprofit crisis pregnancy centers in California. It would force the pregnancy centers to promote abortion or face heavy fines.
