A 19-year-old man has pleaded guilty to killing an American tourist and injuring five others in a knife attack in London’s Russell Square last year.
Zakaria Bulhan pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
He killed 64-year-old retired teacher Darlene Horton, who was visiting from Florida, in August 2016, and stabbed five other members of the public.
The 19-year-old, who lived in Tooting in South London at the time of attack, is a Norwegian national of Somali origin who came to Britain in 2002 as a young child.
Mr Bulhan had also been charged with murder, but the prosecution accepted the guilty plea on the lesser charge due to mental health issues. He was diagnosed as having acute paranoid schizophrenia when he carried out the attack.
The people injured in the attack have been named as Martin Hoenisch, Lillie Selletin, David Imber, Bernard Hepplewhite and Yovel Lewronski.
