The soccer association, Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), is pledging to rebuild the Gaza stadium that Israeli defense forces targeted after Hamas rockets were fired from it.

FIFA says they see it as their “mandate” to rebuild destroyed stadiums, and that they “will also rebuild the stadium in Gaza.”

No one knows whether FIFA understands that the stadium was targeted because it was used as cover during hostile actions against Israel. Nor does anyone know if the FIFA understands that once rebuilt, it will probably be used as cover for launching rockets (in some capacity) again.

All that is known at this time is that the FIFA secretary-general Jerome Valcke says: “Soccer brings people together and we will support any reconstruction necessary when football infrastructure is destroyed.”
