Frenchman Identified in ISIS Video Denies Being in Video

The French government believes Michael Dos Santos is “one of two French militants” that appeared in a video that showed American aid worker Peter Kessig being beheaded.

The video also shows the execution of a number of Syrian soldiers.

Xinhuanet.com reports that over “900 French nationals and residents” have either traveled to Syria to take up arms with ISIS or plan to do so in the near future.

Santos left Champigny-sur-Marne for Syria in August 2013, after converting to Islam. He is now wanted by French authorities on charges stemming from suspected ties to “a terrorist organization.”

And while the French government believes Santos is one of the two Frenchmen in the beheading video, Santos says: “I categorically announce that I was not present in the video.”

Santos’ mother–Ana Dos Santos–does not think her son is in the video either. She said: “The more I see the video, the more I tell myself it’s not him.”
