Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi attacked United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s remarks at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in California on Sunday, where he addressed some of the most powerful members of Iran’s expatriate community, as “hypocritical and absurd.”

According to Iran’s state-run Tasnim News Agency, Qassemi said Iran will counter Washington’s conspiracies through unity and solidarity.

“The U.S. secretary of state’s hypocritical and absurd speech in the gathering was only a propaganda exercise and showed the unlimited desperation of the US administration more than ever,” Qassemi reportedly said.

“These remarks are a clear example of the country’s [the United States’] interference in Iran’s internal affairs and exactly in line with its long-term destabilizing and destructive policies in the region, which are in violation of its international obligations,” Qassemi added.

Qassemi said, “Throughout history, Iranians have never accepted any foreigner’s domination and bullying policies, and certainly, in these sensitive conditions, they not only give no importance to the policies of the current president and the warmongering minority of the U.S. … but also will respond to such statements and meddlesome moves by the US officials and politicians with their exemplary solidarity.”

During his Sunday speech, titled “Supporting Iranian Voices” at the Reagan Presidential Library, Pompeo said Iran resembles a “mafia more than a government” and said America is not afraid to “spread our message on the airwaves and online inside Iran. For forty years the Iranian people have heard from their leaders that America is the Great Satan. We do not believe they are interested in hearing that fake news any longer.”

Pompeo said, “The level of corruption and wealth among regime leaders shows that Iran is run by something that resembles the mafia more than a government.”

On Sunday, Trump tweeted a warning for Iran, saying, “never, ever threaten the United States again or you will suffer the consequences the likes of which few throughout history have ever suffered before.”

To this, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani reportedly said that war with America would be “the mother of wars” and warned, “Mr. Trump! Do not play with the lion’s tail, (because) you’ll regret it. You are unable to provoke the Iranian nation against Iran’s security and interests.”

According to Tasnim News agency, during Rouhani’s recent visit to Austria, the Islamic Republic’s president pledged that Tehran will stand firm against America’s threat to halt Iranian oil shipments and said no other country in the region could export oil if Iran is deprived of doing so.

2019 will mark the 40th anniversary of the Iranian regime’s coming to power, the fruits of which, Pompeo said, “have been bitter.”
