British boy killed in hand grenade blast in Sweden

GOTHENBURG, Sweden, Aug. 23 (UPI) — An eight-year-old British boy has been killed after a hand grenade was thrown through an apartment window early Monday in Sweden, authorities said.

Yuusuf Warsame, 8, was visiting family in the town of Gothenburg when the grenade was tossed into the living room where Warsame was sleeping. He later died at a nearby hospital. Others sleeping in the room were not seriously hurt.

“It could have ended much worse,” said police spokesperson Thomas Fuxborg.

Police are considering revenge as a possible motive after finding one of the people living at the address was convicted of a fatal shooting in a local restaurant last year.

Police said they have made no arrests.
