Sept. 8 (UPI) — The West Wing, Law & Order and NYPD Blue icon Jimmy Smits has joined the fourth and final season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.

“While crossing the ravaged badlands of Spain, Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride) grasp onto hope — and each other — as uncertainty about their future grows,” a press release from AMC said Tuesday.

Smits plays Captain Alejandro Perkins, a “former U.S. Navy officer and medical doctor who found a unique way to thrive during the apocalypse, ” the network said.

The zombie-apocalypse drama is expected to return in 2027.

For hope. For home. For each other.
