Record 68.5 million people displaced worldwide: UN

Geneva (AFP) – A record 68.5 million people have been forced flee their homes due to war, violence and persecution, notably in places like Myanmar and Syria, the UN said on Tuesday.

“We are at a watershed,” said UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, as the agency announced that nearly three million people had been newly displaced in 2017.
