Aug. 27 (UPI) — Financier George Soros and his son Alexander should be charged with Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act charges, President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday.
The president did not cite any evidence against George and Alexander Soros or specific incidents while urging that they be charged for alleged RICO Act violations.
“George Soros and his wonderful radical-left son should be charged with RICO because of their support of violent protests and much more all throughout the United States,” Trump said in a Truth Social post.
Trump called Soros and his son Alexander “lunatics” and said his administration won’t let them “rip apart America any more.”
“Soros and his group of psychopaths have caused great damage to our country,” the president continued. “That includes his crazy West Coast friends.”
He warned Soros, his son and their friends to “be careful” because “we’re watching you!”
The RICO Act took effect in 1970 and gives prosecutors the power to hold people accountable for conspiring to commit illegal acts without directly participating in them, according to the Department of Justice.
George Soros has been a longtime supporter of the Democratic Party, various candidates for public office and many of the political causes that they support.
The elder Soros accused Trump of wanting to “establish a mafia state” during his first term in the White House, Politico reported.
George Soros created and funds the New York City-based non-profit Open Society Foundations in 1979 in South Africa, which Alexander Soros now chairs.
The foundation describes its mission as the “search for bold, democratic solutions for our urgent, common challenges that advance rights, equity and justice.”
Foundation officials denied supporting or funding violent protests in the United States.
“Allegations to the contrary are false, and the threats against our founder and chair are outrageous,” Open Society said in a post on X.
“We stand for fundamental freedoms guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution, including the rights to free speech and peaceful protest that are hallmarks of any vibrant democracy.”
Former President Joe Biden awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to George Soros in January.
