March 5 (UPI) — The Vegas Golden Knights acquired forward Nic Dowd through a trade with the Washington Capitals, the NHL franchises announced Thursday.
In exchange for Dowd, the Golden Knights agreed to send goalie Jesper Vikman, a third-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft and a second-round pick in the 2029 NHL Draft to the Capitals.
Dowd, 35, totaled four goals and 12 assists over 55 appearances this season. He totaled a career-high 27 points, from 14 goals and 13 assists over 82 appearances last season for the Capitals. The seventh-round pick by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2009 NHL Draft registered 88 goals and 104 assists over the first 11 seasons of his NHL career.
Dowd, who was traded from the Kings to the Vancouver Canucks in 2017, signed with the Capitals in 2018. The Capitals signed the forward to a two-year, $6 million extension in April. He is under contract through 2026-27.
Vikman, 23, was a fifth-round pick by the Golden Knights in the 2020 NHL Draft. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound net minder went 8-7-3 with a 3.41 goals against average and .866 save percentage in 18 games this season for the AHL’s Henderson Silver Knights.
The Golden Knights (29-19-14) sit in first place in the Western Conference’s Pacific Division, one point ahead of the Anaheim Ducks (34-24-3). They will host the Minnesota Wild (36-16-10) at 10 p.m. EST Friday in Las Vegas.
The Capitals (31-25-7), who sit in fifth place in the Eastern Conference’s Metropolitan Division, will battle the Boston Bruins (34-21-5) at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Boston.
