Nov. 9 (UPI) — A New York City firefighter died of a “medical episode” Saturday while battling an “all hands” blaze in Brooklyn, authorities said.
Patrick Brady, 42, was an 11-year FDNY veteran, according to a Sunday statement by department commissioner Robert Tucker.
“Firefighter Patrick Brady gave his life protecting the city we all love; there is no sacrifice that is more selfless than the actions that took place this evening,” Mayor Eric Adams said in the statement.
Brady was fighting a fire on the roof of a building at 9407 Kings Highway in Brooklyn, which was initially classified a five-alarm blaze, when he went into cardiac arrest, the department said. He was treated by emergency medical personnel on the scene before being transported to Brookdale hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
“A resident of Queens, he is survived by his wife Kara, and his two brothers, Jimmy and Brian, who are both FDNY firefighters,” the department said in a statement. Other family memes, including cousins and uncles, are also FDNY firefighters, the department said.
Brady joined FDNY in July 2014, and worked on Ladder 120 since 2022.
