Four people were stabbed on an Amtrak train Friday night as it neared Niles, Michigan. A single assailant has been apprehended and charged with attempted murder for the act.
Police in Michigan announced that Michael Darnell Williams, 44, of Saginaw, Michigan, is charged with the attacks. He is being held in the Berrien County Jail in lieu of $1 million bail.
The incident occurred on the Chicago-to-Port Huron line after an Amtrak employee who became suspicious of Williams’ behavior called 911.
The four victims, were taken to Lakeland-Niles Hospital and to the larger Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Ind. They are all in stable condition.
The victims include a male Amtrak conductor, two male passengers, and a female passenger.
One witness said the incident was terrifying.
Passenger Caitlin Cipri said that she heard the screaming and saw the accused stab two passengers.
“It was terrifying, and you don’t think something like that is going to happen to you,” Cipri told the South Bend Tribune. “It’s terrifying that things like this happen.”
