The first winter snowstorm of 2015 is already brewing and promises to stretch from Chicago eastward to Boston, meteorologists say.
The storm will bring heavy snow, ice, and rain with it as it makes its way west from the Great Plains area where a wintry mix has already been deposited.
The first part of the storm will slam Kansas, Missouri, and Illinois with cold temperatures and icy rains. Once it gets to the Chicago area and north into Wisconsin and Michigan, the wintry mix will transition into snow.
Southward, though, icy rain will continue to fall. The cold rains will fall on Cincinnati and into Kentucky and western Pennsylvania.
Snow and ice will also reach Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, and northward into Canada.
“Central and northern New England have the potential for a significant snow and/or ice event and multiple hours of slippery travel on the front side of the storm prior to any warmup,” AccuWeather.com Senior Meteorologist Bernie Rayno said Thursday.
