McDonald’s Says the Minion Toys Are Not Really Swearing

After complaints from some parents that kids were receiving Minions toys with voice recordings of a character swearing, fast food giant McDonald’s is now assuring customers that this is not the case.

With its tie-in to the new animated movie Minions in full swing, some parents were concerned that the little Minion dolls with the voice recordings inside, which kids across the nation are finding in their Happy Meals, were swearing at their children.

McDonald’s, though, says this is nonsense. And they mean that literally. The Minion dolls aren’t really saying anything, the fast food giant says. The recordings are literally nonsense words meant to sound funny.

“The allegation that this toy is saying any offensive phrase is not true,” McDonald’s told CNBC on Friday. “We apologize for any confusion or offense to those who may have interpreted the sounds for anything other than gibberish.”

Some parents felt that the little toys were saying “What The F**k,” but McDonald’s says this is a “mishearing” of the recordings.

“The phrases said by this toy are ‘para la bukay,’ ‘hahaha,’ and ‘eh eh,'” McDonald’s insisted.

The toys are a promotion for the newest cartoon based on the little yellow characters made famous in the 2010 Steve Carell-voiced movie Despicable Me.
