Newt Gingrich says our country is “at war with an ideology” that intends to destroy our civilization.

The former Speaker of the House and presidential candidate called into Breitbart News Daily today to give host Stephen K. Bannon his response to the president’s address, and also discuss the need for a new strategy in the “long war” against terrorism.

On terrorism, “Think of it as a virus,” said Gingrich. “It spreads on the Internet. It can be anywhere. It can be in San Bernardino. It can be in Paris … Syria, or Libya, or you name it.”

“We are at war with an ideology and a movement, religiously inspired, which wants to destroy our civilization,” he added. “They say so publicly. They prove it every time they get a chance, whether they’re beheading people, or they’re shooting up restaurants, or they’re going to a Christmas Party in San Bernardino, they’re pretty clear about what they’re trying to do.We don’t even have the right models to think about how to fight this campaign,” he concluded.

Asked about the still controversial 28 pages of redacted intelligence from the 9-11 Commission’s report, “I’ve never understood whatever the deal was cut that allowed a large number of Saudis to leave the day after 9-11. I’ve never understood that,” said Gingrich.

And I’ve never understood why it’s been kept secret from the American people. And the fact is that the Saudis have been the largest single funder of terrorism, with maybe the exception of Iran. … there’s no question that the Saudis have been the leading purveyors of a version of Islam which is incompatible with Western Civilization.

As for last night’s speech, while suggesting it may have been the strongest Obama has ever sounded as regards the War on Terror, Gingrich noted Obama still “can’t bring himself to accurately describe what we’re living through … in the end, he veers off on Gun Control, as if that has anything to do with it. Every single gun in Paris was illegal. The hand grenades were illegal. The bombs in Paris were illegal.”

As for government in general, “The government is just not competent right now,” he said, referring to both Departments like the VA and the concept of what amounts to lifelong employment. Gingrich believes the Federal Government will continue to struggle from gross incompetence until the rules of employment are changed.
