North Dakota has entered the fray and is vying to become the 14th state to recognize permitless carry as the law of the land.

Gun Owners of America reports that the North Dakota House passed permitless carry legislation by a lopsided vote of 83 to 9 and the bill now goes to the state Senate.

The North Dakota House’s passage of permitless carry came during the same week that New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu (R) signed legislation abolishing the concealed carry permit requirement in his state. In signing the bill, Sununu described permitless carry as “common-sense legislation” and stressed that it is part of holding “true to the live-free-or-die spirit.”

Because of New Hampshire’s action, permitless carry is now the law of the land in 13 states: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Kansas, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, Vermont, Wyoming, and West Virginia. Although a permit is still required in certain parts of Arkansas and Montana, the vast majority of both states–99.4 percent–allow concealed carry without a permit.

On February 26 Breitbart News reported that permitless carry is also gaining momentum in Kentucky and South Dakota. The NRA-ILA reports that Kentucky’s permitless carry push was streamlined by an amendment put forward by state Senator Robin Webb (D-18). And South Dakota’s push continues to be spearheaded by Representative Lynne DiSanto (R-35), who told the Associated Press that abolishing the permit requirement will allow South Dakota residents to carry arms “the way the Constitution intended.”
