Teen Accused of Biting Off Chicken’s Head Charged with Animal Cruelty

A 17-year-old Florida high school student has been charged with animal cruelty for allegedly biting a chicken’s head off.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office announced on Facebook Tuesday that David Andrew Jimenez, 17, was charged with felony animal cruelty and trespassing for allegedly entering University High School’s chicken coop and decapitated a live chicken over the weekend:

Authorities said the teen entered the coop after a “Farm to Table” event held earlier in the day. On Monday, a teacher discovered the headless chicken corpse in the school parking lot and its head inside the chicken coop, police said.

School officials said they found the chicken’s eggs thrown all over the gym.

“They went into an agricultural program, the farm to table and for basically no other reason, bit the chicken’s head off and kept the head in the mouth, and then wanted to see how the chicken died, I mean it’s pretty sadistic if you think of it,” Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood told FOX 35 Orlando.

Police said students reported the incident after they said Jimenez bragged about killing the bird and biting its head off.

“He went and bragged about what he had done, and then several students went and informed the school,” Chitwood said.

Jimenez is due back in court on Wednesday, and authorities are considering additional charges against other students reportedly involved in the incident.
