A report from Reuters reveals that a “top priority” for Moms Demand Action is being sure teachers remained unarmed in Florida classrooms.

The push to keep teachers defenseless comes just days before the one year anniversary of the February 14, 2018, Parkland high school shooting in which unarmed teachers and their students were shot and killed.

Reuters reports that Florida adopted a Guardian program after the shooting. The program requires “at least one armed staff member or law enforcement officer at each campus” throughout the state. The law allows the carrying of guns outside of the classroom. Republican lawmakers are trying to augment the language of that requirement, so that teachers can be armed in the classroom, if they so chose.

Michael Bloomberg-funded Mom’s Demand Action is fighting to prevent arming teachers for defense of themselves and their students.

There was an armed resource office at the Parkland school on February 14, 2018, but he hid outside the building instead the building instead of entering to confront the shooter. On December 12, 2018, Breitbart News reported that the commission investigating the Parkland shooting voted 13-1 to recommend legislators pass a law giving teachers the option to be armed. The Associated Press quoted the commission saying “It’s not enough to have one or two police officers or armed guards on campus.”

Breitbart News spoke to Andrew Pollack about Moms Demand Action’s efforts to keep teachers unarmed. Pollack’s daughter, Meadow, was killed in the February 14, 2018, attack. He said, “Moms Demand Action is like other liberal groups, in that it doesn’t understand that the Guardian program is voluntary, highly selective, and requires extensive training. Above all, they haven’t had a child shot in a school waiting for a police response.”

Pollack added, “The average police response time is seven minutes, maybe up to 45 minutes in rural areas.”

How are unarmed teachers supposed to defend their students as those moments slowly pass?
