In an article announcing MILO’s appearance this Friday on HBO’s Real Time With Bill Maher, Erik Hayden, a writer for The Hollywood Reporter, falsely claimed MILO is a “leading voice in the alt-right,” a movement that “embraces implicit or explicit racism or white supremacy.”

“He is a prominent voice in the alt-right, a movement that embraces ‘implicit or explicit racism or white supremacy,’ as the Anti-Defamation League labeled it, [but now,] Milo Yiannopoulos is getting even more media exposure,” Hayden wrote.

MILO has rejected both the claim that he is alt-right and has denounced “racism or white supremacy” repeatedly. In January during a speech at UC Colorado Springs, MILO said, “White pride, white nationalism, white supremacy isn’t the way to go.”

You should be focusing on what unites people and not what drives them apart. You shouldn’t give a shit about skin color, a shit about sexuality… You shouldn’t give a shit about gender, and you should be deeply suspicious of the people who do.”

Despite Maher regularly inviting guests from all sides of the political spectrum, Hayden claims Maher’s invitation of MILO is a “move that may alienate the host’s progressive viewers.”

Following the riot over his appearance at UC Berkeley, MILO noted to Fox News host Tucker Carlson that “The media has created this environment in which it’s okay to say almost anything about somebody who is right of Jane Fonda. … And it’s a way of legitimizing, in some cases, as happened last night, violent responses.”

MILO will appear as the top of the show guest this Friday to discuss freedom of speech on college campuses. Maher has previously joked the show might need extra security to accommodate him but added that he has been a “longtime critic of colleges shutting people up. Free speech should be something we own.”
