Tim Kaine promises to start a war if elected vice president.

Hillary Clinton’s running mate wants the Kansas Jayhawks and Missouri Tigers to reboot their “border war.”

The schools first competed against one another in football in 1891 and in basketball in 1907. The Tigers own a slight edge on the gridiron while the Jayhawks boast a commanding lead on the hardwood. But chances to even the score, or at to least exact revenge, ended in 2012 when Missouri joined the Southeastern Conference.

Kaine grew up in Overland Park, Kansas, and graduated from the University of Missouri, which would seem to make him ideal for maintaining the truce rather than reigniting hostilities. Missouri Governor Jay Nixon, a huge fan of the jettisoned rivalry, disagrees. He thinks Kaine can “melt the ice” to turn the cold war between the two public institutions hot again.

“He’s stuck right in the middle of it,” Nixon told the Kansas City Star. “It’s not the most important issue he’s facing right now.”
