President Trump issues a tweet giving further background on Vice President Pence’s decision to leave the Colts game on Sunday after several 49ers protested. It turns out, it was Trump who asked Pence to leave if he saw any players protesting.

President Trump tweeted:

President Trump initially called protesting players out, at a rally in Alabama. Trump referred to the protesting players as “SOB’s,” and said he would like to see their team owners fire them. No Colts players protested, however, several 49ers did.

During Weeks 3 and 4, the 49ers had more players protest than any other team in the league. During Week 4, for instance, 49ers accounted for half the total number of players who protested that week.

On Sunday, 23 49ers protested during the anthem, slightly down from 30 last week.
