Amnesty International (AI) on Wednesday published the 2018 edition of its annual report on the death penalty. The report found a 31 percent decrease in executions compared to 2017, “the lowest number of executions that Amnesty International has recorded in the past decade.”

Report: Iran Executes Entire Male Population of Village for Drug Offenses

Anti-death-penalty activists have been asking the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime to cut some $20 million in funding for Iran’s anti-drug campaign, because Iran executes too many people. Islamic State Video Shows Children Executing ‘Spies’ in Syria

The latest atrocity from the Islamic State is a video showing children – boys who look about ten years old, referred to by ISIS as the “Cubs of the Caliphate” – executing prisoners in Syria. Five of the murders are carried out with pistols, but the sixth is a knife beheading.

Executions are rising sharply in Iran, reaching a 12-year high in 2014, according to the United Nations’s Human Rights Council. The UN called this “deeply troubling” and further criticized Iran for not living up to promises that it would protect ethnic and religious minorities, according to a report at Voice of America News.

Reports: Iran Hanged Nine on Christmas Day

On Christmas day in Iran, at least nine prisoners were hanged by Iranian regime officials, according to reports. The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) reports that seven were hanged in the infamous Adelabad prison on Christmas morning.
