On Tuesday, Breitbart News reported that ATF Headquarters announced they were halting their AR-15 ammo ban less than a month after proposing it. That same day, The Washington Post declared: “That didn’t take long.”
According to WaPo, the ATF “pulled the plug” before the “informal comment period” was finished because of the outcry.
Asked what the reaction was like, ATF spokeswoman Danette Seward said, “All you have to do is go to our Facebook page to see the reaction.”
The ATF’s Advisory Notice, announcing the suspension of the ban on March 10, showed the agency received more “80,000 comments,” and “the vast majority of [those]… are critical of the framework, and included issues that deserve further study.”
As recently as March 2, the White House was full steam ahead on plans for the ban, describing it as a “common sense” way to save the lives of police officers. Then law enforcement groups and individual sheriffs around the country began pointing out how unnecessary the ban really was. On March 6, the Fraternal Order of Police made clear that the M855 round “had not historically posed a threat to law enforcement.”
