Conflicting Reports About SurveyMonkey CEO’s Death Lead to New Questions

For many, the math simply doesn’t add up. And with newly-acquired and conflicting information about SurveyMonkey CEO Dave Goldberg’s death, the story doesn’t either.

The mystery has deepened: Waiting nearly a day to announce his passing. Waiting three days to report the cause of his death. And the family’s picture-perfect image suddenly under scrutiny–especially given the prominence of Sandberg’s wife, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, whose book Lean In promoted women’s empowerment–and Sandberg’s partnership.

Furthermore, there are conflicting reports coming out of the Nayarit State’s prosecutor’s office. The Associated Press notes that the prosecutor’s office said Goldberg checked into the Four Seasons Punta Mita on Thursday, the day before he died, allegedly in a treadmill accident. However, John O’Sullivan, the general manager at the Four Seasons Punta Mita told Breitbart News that “Mr. Goldberg was not a guest at the Four Seasons, did not enter the Four Seasons over the period of time that was questioned, and unfortunately there was an inaccuracy in the reporting. He was not a resident at the hotel.”

Reuters now reports Sandberg was indeed a guest at a suite near the Four Seasons–but not owned by the Four Seasons.

Oonline blogger, entrepreneur and “geek feminist” Penelope Trunk posited that Sheryl had actually been in Washington, D.C. and not with Dave in Mexico–or the family’s children at home in California:

So then, I would like to know why was he on vacation in Mexico without Sheryl and without the kids? What was it a vacation from? Who was he with?

Why was Sheryl in DC instead of going to get the body? Why was Sheryl in DC instead of home with her kids? Why does Dave take a vacation when Sheryl is scheduled to be gone?

(Reuters still claims Sandberg was on vacation with his wife.) Trunk also speculated openly that Goldberg’s death was a suicide. She drew back to her own experience as a child where she believed her uncle had died of a heart attack while shoveling snow, only to find out 20 years later that he had really committed suicide by shooting himself in the head. “Family secrets are powerful. And effective. So it seems pretty easy to me for Dave’s family to tell everyone a lie.”
