Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., who has been missing from Congress for two months amid rumors flying about, has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder by the Mayo Clinic.

Jackson has been under investigation by the Ethics Committee because there were allegations that he had approached former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich about raising funds for the governor in exchange for Barack Obama’s vacated Senate seat. At a 2008 meeting, Raghuveer Nayak, one of Jackson’s chief fundraisers, allegedly promised to raise $1 million for Blagojevich if he appointed Jackson Jr.

In addition, Jackson may have directed Nayak to buy plane tickets for Giovana Huidobro, the married congressman's so-called "social acquaintance.” Jackson Jr. had a gastrointestinal bypass in 2004, but the Mayo Clinic had no comment on whether the surgery triggered the disorder.

Coincidentally, Jackson’s disappearance from Congress came within days of Nayak’s arrest for paying hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes and kickbacks to doctors.
