OFA Email Asks for Anecdotes of Gun Violence

The former campaign apparatus of Barack Obama, Organizing for Action, sent out an email requesting recipients send back stories of gun violence which they have experienced.

Sami Rahamim, the author of the email, encourages readers to share their stories to prove to Congress that America needs “sensible solutions” for expanded gun control legislation.

President Obama recalled anecdotes of children killed in the infamous Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting when he announced his legislative push for stricter gun control laws in January. He recited several letters from children urging him to restrict the use of firearms.

The new regulations Obama has proposed primarily target “assault weapons,” a loosely-defined style of rifle which statistically are not responsible for a large percentage of murders in the U.S., as even Vice President Joe Biden has admitted.

It appears Organizing for Action seeks more anecdotal accounts of gun violence–any type of gun, including those not targeted by the White House–to make its case for gun control rather than surveys or academic studies.
