Pittsburgh Welfare Case Manager Arrested for Allegedly Trying to Trade Benefits for Sex

A Department of Public Works employee – read welfare case worker – in Pittsburgh has been arrested after allegedly attempting to trade benefits for sex. John Geary, a case manager, allegedly explained to a potential welfare recipient that he could offer her extra benefits and cash if she provided him with some extra incentives in return. Geary allegedly asked the object of his affections whether she would smoke crack with him on the weekends when his wife went to work and his kids were safe in bed.

Geary is a decade-long employee for DPW in McKeesport. Now he’s in prison only thanks to the director of the halfway house in which the victim is currently residing. She was too afraid to report him for fear of retaliation, according to a representative from the District Attorney’s office.

Police believe this victim may not be Geary’s first.

The good news: if he survives this case, there may be a job opening at the IRS.
