Texas Lawmaker Responds to Wendy Davis with Baby Shoes

Physician and Texas State Sen. Bob Deuell (R) held up a pair of baby shoes on Monday to represent unborn children who are aborted.

Deuell’s baby shoes countered the visual symbol of the “pink sneakers” worn by State Sen. Wendy Davis (D) during her filibuster against the late-term abortion ban bill that also hopes to raise standards of care in the state’s abortion clinics.

Hundreds of people packed the state house, supporters of the bill in blue shirts and those against in orange shirts, to provide oral testimony. An anti-abortion rally was held on Monday evening, attended by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Texas Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, and state Attorney General Greg Abbott.

Though Davis’ filibuster and the ensuing unruly mob of pro-abortion supporters derailed the Senate bill in a previous session of the legislature, Gov. Rick Perry (R) called lawmakers back for a new special session and said he expects the bill to be passed.
