According to local reports, a Seattle Starbucks employee got the pink slip after eating a Starbucks sandwich out of the trash. The sandwich had been thrown out because its expiration date had passed. Coulson Loptmann, 21, was a part-time barista in downtown Seattle. He got hungry, reached into the trash, and pulled out a sausage sandwich in the middle of his shift.
The store manager contacted Starbucks human resources, firing him on the spot. A spokesman for the company said that the company did have a policy of prohibiting eating of expired products, but added that the employee would not have been fired unless the event represented the “culmination of broader, ongoing performance issues.” Loptmann is on food stamps.
