Hartford, Conn., Holding 'Big Bash Festival' for Sam Colt's 200th Birthday

On July 19 Hartford, Connecticut, will hold a “Big Bash Festival” in honor of firearm manufacturer Sam Colt’s 200th birthday.

There will be bands, pony rides, “family games with prizes, arts and crafts, and even a beer garden with various local beers.”

According to CTNow, event manager Matt Dabrowski wants something for everyone at the event.

Dabrowski said, “We wanted to bring an old-fashioned approach to a modern event.” As a result there will be “several vintage games, including old-fashioned baseball, in honor of Colt, who founded Colt’s Patent Firearms Manufacturing Co.”

He said Colt not only invented “Hartford manufacturing,” but that he also invented “what it means to be a manufacturer in the U.S.”

The Big Bash Festival will be held at Colt Park from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Tours associated with the festival included those at the Colt Armory, Church of the Good Shepherd, the Wadsworth Antheneum Museum of Art, Cedar Hill Cemetery, the Museum of Connecticut History, Connecticut Historical Society, and the Butler-McCook House and Garden.
