Obama to Visit Jackie Robinson Film Set

Obama to Visit Jackie Robinson Film Set

In late March, the Obama campaign sent out one of their numerous “personal e-mails” from Michelle Obama delineating a reason for the American electorate to send them campaign money. What was the reason that time? “Michelle” said:

Every night in the White House, I see Barack up late poring over briefings, reading your letters, and writing notes to people he’s met.

He’s doing that for you — working hard every day to make sure we can finish what we all started together. This week, I need you to have his back. Will you donate $3 or more to support Barack before Saturday’s critical fundraising deadline?

Thank you,

Michelle

Michelle Obama has made the claim that her husband works assiduously at his job before. If one considers golfing Obama’s job, she may be right.

But how are we to reconcile that to Obama taking time off from the White House to visit a movie set?

The chief of Legendary Entertainment, Thomas Tull, whose company is filming 42, a biography of Jackie Robinson, said Obama wants to visit the set on Tuesday. Of course, Tull has given $35,800 to the Obama Victory Fund 2012 so far, so that’s one reason for Obama to have his hat in hand.

But, of course, there is another reason. Obama has mentioned Robinson more that once in recent campaign speeches as “laying the groundwork” for him to become the first black president. And there is no doubt that Obama and his minions intend to play the race card over and over again in 2012. Trayvon Martin, the teen criminal who was killed? Obama said if he had a son he would have looked like him. A reporter for the Daily Caller interrupts Obama’s speech? Sam Donaldson of ABC News and CNN anchor Don Lemon assert that the reporter only acted in that fashion because Obama was black.

Politico reporter Joe Williams claimed that racist disrespect of Obama is the same as racism among conservatives, citing Rep. Joe Wilson, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, and the Tea Party.

This cynical attempt to play the race card will certainly be an integral part of the Obama agenda in campaign 2012. And if Obama has to interrupt his (cough) heavy work schedule to visit a movie set that honors a black American just to point out that he himself is also black, it’s worth taking the afternoon off.
