Oliver Stone: Mexico Needs Drug War for Economic Survival

Director Oliver Stone is very much against the U.S. war on drugs. But the far-left director, out promoting his latest film, “Savages,” says the Mexican government needs that war to survive financially.

Stone, chatting with Piers Morgan on the Brit’s basement-rated CNN talk show, told the audience that Mexico’s economy needs the drug war no matter how immoral it might be.

But Stone also argued that, because of the vast scale of the war on drugs, decriminalization would present a massive systemic threat, especially south of the border: “The Mexican economy would die without it because they need the money. It goes into their legitimate economy. It’s bigger than tourism. It’s bigger than oil. It’s bigger than remissions from their Mexican emigrants back to their country.”
