Ellen DeGeneres to Host 2014 Oscars

Ellen DeGeneres to Host 2014 Oscars

It became crystal clear today that the next Oscars ceremony won’t feature a refrain from We Saw Your Boobs.

Ellen DeGeneres, the popular daytime talker, will be hosting the 2014 Academy Awards telecast. The gig marks a return assignment for the comedian, who first hosted the event in 2007.

DeGeneres is well liked in entertainment circles, works clean and is not known for divisive humor. Her selection also could be a concession to the outrage among some women viewers regarding Seth MacFarlane’s gig earlier this year.

MacFarlane’s We Saw Your Boobs musical number, a spoof on actresses who have appeared nude on screen, was slammed by prominent women like Jane Fonda as being sexist.

DeGeneres’ own sexuality–she is married actress Portia De Rossi–could come up during her monologue. Oscar ceremonies often get political, from Michael Moore’s angry speech in 2003 to last year’s appearance by First Lady Michelle Obama to hand out the Best Picture prize.
