Israel: Peace by Thursday, or Ground Assault on Gaza
Israel has now set a Thursday deadline for the Egypt-brokered talks; if by that point no peace has been brokered, Israel’s ground troops are set to assault the Gaza Strip. “There is still no breakthrough and Egypt is working to find middle ground,” reported an Egyptian source. Despite the 48-hour deadline, the violence has not stopped.
Hamas continues to fire rockets into Israel, freshly resupplied by Iran. According to Israeli ambassador to the UK Daniel Taub, “over one million Israelis have been forced to live under similar conditions [to the World War II blitz in London], seeking refuge in bomb shelters as a result of thousands of Hamas rocket and mortar attacks.”
