Oops: Kerry Refers to Palestinian Territories as 'Country'

On Thursday, Secretary of State John Kerry spoke at the United Nations, where he gushed over the “courageous decision” by the Israelis and Palestinians to try to restart negotiations. Then Kerry mistakenly referred to the Palestinian territories as a sovereign country: “It’s my hope that that will be able to happen as procedures are put in place by both countries in order to empower that.”

When confronted about that comment later, Kerry said, “Did I say that?”

The negotiations will be accompanied by a massive Israeli prisoner release of 82 terrorists, most of whom were convicted of murder. The Palestinians have demanded that as a precondition to serious talks, the Israelis agree to a return to pre-1967 borders.
