Australian Senator-Elect for Gun Control Repeal: 'The Government Is Not Your Friend'
Australian Senator-elect David Leyonhjelm says gun control laws need to be repealed and he is warning the people that "the government is not your friend."
Leyonhjelm assumes office on July 1.
According to ABC.net.au, Leyonhjelm was delivering a scathing attack on the National Party when he said it was "time to give people access to weapons for self-defense." He said: "We are not permitted to have anything all: guns, knives, pepper sprays, mace, for self-defense. It's an abomination."
In addition to self-defense purposes, Leyonhjelm says the people need firearms to control rodent and predator populations on their farms. He said "he has foxes, cats, and rabbits on his farm" and he believes it is his "environmental duty to shoot them if [he happens] to get the opportunity."
Leyonhjelm said "he feels strong ties to Rural Australia" and added: "[I stand for] people who believe in freedom, people who believe that the government is not your friend."
