A new poll finds that Americans overwhelmingly support a military strike against the Islamic State terror group in Syria, formerly known as ISIS– an outcome that is in striking contrast to the indecisiveness of President Barack Obama, who has admitted he has no strategy to date on how to deal with the Islamic State’s terrorism.
The latest poll conducted by the organization YouGov finds that, within just one year, public opinion has changed dramatically from steep opposition to use of military force against Syria to wide support for military strikes against the Islamic State terrorists in that country.
In September of 2013, 62 percent of Americans opposed the use of military force in Syria, while only 20 percent supported it. The current poll, however, finds the results reversed, with 63 percent of Americans now backing military strikes in Syria, in contrast to 16 percent who oppose them.
Political affiliation was not found to be a factor in support of the use of military force against the Islamic State in Syria. For both Democrats and Independents, 60 percent favored military strikes, with 17 percent opposed, while 76 percent of Republicans supported this type of military intervention as opposed to 13 percent who opposed it.
Paul Bedard at the Washington Examiner notes that the striking transformation of public opinion “comes as Obama fights with his national security team and Hill Democrats calling for action.”
As Breitbart TV observed Sunday, U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee Chairwoman Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), appearing on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” said Obama is being “too cautious” in his approach to ISIS because the Islamists are “extraordinarily dangerous” and “will kill with abandon.”
