Demand For CA Concealed Carry Permits Up 'Nearly' 10 Times Over Last Year

Applications for California concealed carry permits during the first four months of 2014 was “nearly” 10 times higher than the total number of permits issued in all of 2013.

As Breitbart News reported on April 28, the surge in demand followed the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court’s loosening of concealed carry restrictions on February 13. After the court struck down the “good cause” requirement for concealed carry, Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens complied, loosening the restrictions in her county.

What followed was a spike in concealed carry applications that “stunned” law enforcement.

And according to the Orange County Register, the demand for concealed carry permits simply continues to grow.

“In the four months since [the] policy shift [after the Ninth Circuit’s decision], 5,448 Orange County residents have initiated the application process–nearly 10 times the number of local concealed -weapon permit applications from all of last year.”

But law enforcement continues to be overwhelmed by the demand. So that while applications are “nearly” 10 times higher, Orange County is issuing permits at “about the same pace as a year ago.”
