'UKIP Calypso' Tops Amazon Download Chart

The anti-EU UK Independence Party released an anthem on Monday which became the number one downloaded song on Amazon.co.uk.

Recorded by former Radio 1 DJ Mike Read, the Afro-Carribean style “UKIP Calypso” by The Independents praises the anti-immigration party and its leader Nigel Farage and criticises others.

Farage posted a link to the song on Twitter and urged his followers to get the track to Number 1 in the charts.

The song quickly became the most downloaded MP3 on Amazon in Britain, but was criticised by several reviewers on the site as racist.

DJ Read brushed off accusations it was offensive to imitate a Carribean accent in the song, telling BBC News “it was never meant to be remotely racist.”
