Musburger Returns to Airwaves for First Time Since Calling Beautiful Woman 'Beautiful'

On Monday, ESPN play-by-play announcer Brent Musburger will return to the airwaves for the first time since making the observation during last Monday’s BCS national title game between Alabama and Notre Dame that Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron’s beautiful girlfriend, a former Miss Alabama who now models, was “beautiful.”

Musburger, along with Fran Fraschilla, who will be replacing Bobby Knight as the color commentator, will be calling the debut of this year’s ESPN “Big Monday” college basketball broadcast. The game will feature Baylor playing Kansas at Allen Fieldhouse in Kansas. 

After Musburger made his remarks about Katherine Webb, McCarron’s girlfriend, her popularity surged. She has gained more than 200,000 twitter followers and will be appearing in this year’s Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition and is as popular–or more so–than her boyfriend, who has won back-to-back BCS college football championships.

The politically correct crowd howled at Musburger’s remarks about how boys should start throwing the football around with their dads so they can become Alabama’s quarterback and date beautiful women. ESPN issued an apology on Musburger’s behalf last Tuesday. Musburger himself did not needlessly apologize, and his agent has indicated Musburger will not be speaking about his supposedly controversial remarks.  What Musburger said was common knowledge–Alabama’s quarterbacks–more often than not–date gorgeous women.

Webb and her father have both stated they did not have a problem with Musburger’s comments. Webb said she was flattered and needed no apologies. Webb’s dad said the media was being unfair to Musburger and people should give him “a break.”
