In recruiting, sometimes things just get weird. As National Signing Day is unfolding, it has been revealed that the mother of elite running back Alex Collins, who committed to Arkansas on Monday, has stolen his signing papers and Collins and others are trying to track her down as we speak.
She is reportedly nervous about the Florida native being so far from home. Collins had verbally committed to Miami before agreeing to go to Arkansas.
This may be one of the more bizarre recruiting stories since the 2011 class when Cyrus Kouandjio (pictured) committed to Auburn on live TV only to have his parents step in and encourage Cyrus to play with his brother Arie at Alabama.
There was a delay for several days, but after a series of family meetings, Kouandjio ultimately signed with the Tide and was a key part of their national championship team this year.
Other interesting announcements today involved Stacy Coley choosing Miami while in tears and Mackensie Alexander, with his brother Mackenro sitting next to him in an Auburn hat, picking Clemson. Alexander pulled out a Mississippi State hat, and a Clemson hat, then reached into his bag leading many to think he was pulling out an Auburn hat before pulling out yet another Clemson cap and putting it on to signify his decision.
However, the runner up to the Collins situation has to go to Tashawn Bower who entered the day committed to Auburn before it broke in the morning that he was going to Florida. Later in the day, LSU received Bower’s Letter of Intent.
Again, sometimes recruiting is just weird.
