Tiger Woods’s victory at The Players Championship on Sunday was the highest-rated non-major round of golf since 2006, again proving how much of a draw the world’s top-ranked golfer is.
According to Nielsen’s overnight ratings, the final round of The Players Championship “drew a 5.7 overnight rating,” which was “up 68% from both last year (3.4) and 2011 (3.4).”
As Sports Business Daily noted, “Sunday’s telecast earned the highest overnight for a non-major PGA Tour telecast since the 2006 Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines (5.9),” which Woods also won.
According to Sports Media Watch, his season’s previous high was a 4.4 overnight for the final round at Doral, another tournament won by Woods.
