SF's Donte Whitner Changing Name to 'Hitner'
Hard-hitting San Francisco safety Donte Whitner is officially changing his last name to "Hitner."
On Wednesday, Whitner confirmed that he is legally taking out “W” in his last name and even received the blessing of his mother.
"I sent it to my lawyer and he filed it for me in Ohio," Whitner said. "I think one word is not as big as 10 words. "It's my last name and removing a letter makes it pretty cool."
Whitner, one of the toughest hitters in the game who recently got fined $21,000 for a hit on an Indianapolis Colts player two weeks ago, said people in the Bay Area already refer to him as "Hitner."
"If you ask the fans around San Francisco, the Bay Area, or anyone that's a fan of me, they call me Donte Hitner any way," he said. "Everything we do is for the fans right? It's all entertainment. We all understand that. It's entertainment, but that's what I do, it's my game. Along with some things that happened recently, that's why I went with it."
