Pat Buchanan: Immigration, Common Core Would Have Jeb Bush 'Torn Apart' in Presidential Run

On this weekend’s broadcast of “The McLaughlin Group,” conservative columnist Pat Buchanan downplayed the prospects a third Bush could make a run for the White House in the form of former Gov. Jeb Bush (R-FL) in 2016.

According to Buchanan, the two stumbling blocks for Bush would be his stances on Common Core and immigration.

“He’s too moderate for the Republican base,” Buchanan said. “You take Common Core – Bobby Jindal was very much out in favor [of Common Core] … he’s had to run away from that. Marco Rubio was for immigration reform … damaged deeply by his support for immigration reform. He’s run away from. Jeb Bush — first John, he doesn’t look like he’s got the fire in the belly. He hasn’t run in a dozen years or more. It’s these two issues that will see him torn apart in very rough primaries and caucuses, Iowa and New Hampshire.”

Buchanan added that, however, he thinks the 2012 GOP nominee, former Gov. Mitt Romney (R-MA) and Bush have a deal, with it being one or the other will run.

“Romney and Bush have some kind of deal,” he said. “If one goes, the other doesn’t because they would split up the moderate vote.”
